Basketball Drills For Post Players

Millions of people love the game of basketball. The more you know about the sport, the more enjoyment you'll get out of watching or playing it. The article that follows allows you to do that.

Keep your head up when you dribble. Lack of practice will manifest itself in looking down towards the ball when dribbling. Take you ball with you everywhere. Whenever you are walking and it is appropriate, dribble there. Staring at the ball doesn't allow you to watch the other players.

It is important that you perfect dribbling the ball. Use fingertips to dribble. Doing so will allow you a greater degree of ball control. Bounce the ball no higher than your waist and keep the ball at your side rather than in front. Always look up and never look down at the ground.

Make sure to practice catching passes. When practicing make sure you drill yourself to catch errant throws as well as picture perfect passes. In the heat of the game, not every pass is going to hit the bulls-eye. You and your team mates will be happier if you (and they) are more versatile.

Make use of hand signals so that wild passes can be avoided. It can be frustrating passing to a teammate when you're both heading to the basket. Hand signals help ensure that the player is ready to take the ball. If they don't signal, don't pass to them.

It is best to take a break if you sustain an injury while playing. Basketball is physically demanding and you can easily get hurt. Trying to play while injured will just make your situation worse. Be sure to seek medical care if you have a serious injury.

You can play basketball solo before and during the season. Basketball is usually a team sport, but just because you can't find others, doesn't mean you have to just stop thinking about it. Don't fret! You can still do a lot on your own. Practice free throws and layups. You can always work on something.

Being able to anticipate your opponent is a key skill. Watch games if you can and look at their tendencies. Learn which of the opposing players are left-dominant and which are right-dominant. Once you start to get to know the other team, you can do a lot better when you're on defense. A defender that is knowledgeable is an effective defender.

Practicing with your weak hand will help to make you a better dribbler. By being able to easily dribble with two hands rather than one, you have a huge advantage over your defenders. Immobilize your dominant hand by tying it behind your back, then practice using your other hand for everything. Very soon, you will develop dribbling skills with the hand you considered weak.

If you wish to do free throw shots reliably, always do the exact same thing before making each shot. This could mean dribbling twice, shaking out your head to loosen your neck or whatever else makes you comfortable. Just make your routine quick, so that it can be consistent, and your body is going to remember just how to nail free throws following your ritual.

Are you a little more informed now? Do you think you can now apply this knowledge on the court? This article has given you the information you need to become great at playing basketball. Implement these tips to help you reap great rewards.
