If you want to excel, you have to play to your strengths. Your team will benefit more if you stop trying to be the star of the game and work your best. Focus on the skills you have and work to make them better.

A bounce pass is an important technique to learn. The bounce pass needs to reach the player at waist level. Bounce the ball so that it lands near your teammate. There are other factors you have to think about too, however.

Free throws are as mental as physical. Training your body is important, but you also have to be mentally ready for the shot. Take a deep breathe, relax and block out all outside distractions before taking the shot.

Your fingers should always be spread out when handling the ball. That will ensure that it doesn't get away from you as you hold it. Your palm should not be touching the ball. When you're shooting or passing, the only place the ball should touch your hand is on your fingers.

If you have a kid wanting to play basketball in high school, be certain that they are properly training their core muscles. The core muscles are the hips, lower back muscles and the abdominal muscles. Core muscles are the connectors between arms and legs. If the core muscles are weak, basketball performance will suffer. A strong core provides a center of force that can be tapped through the legs while running and jumping during games.

When trying to improve your strength to have better basketball footwork, work on building up your core. Your body will naturally balance well if you have strong core muscles. Work the muscles in your abdomen, back, buttocks and hips. Similar to boxers, jump rope to help increase speed and better your footwork.

Stay conscious of your foot motion and placement. Out of bounds will happen with even one toe over the baseline of the lined play area on the court. Also, you can cause a turnover if you walk without dribbling the ball. Moving your feet as you are setting a screen or pick usually results in you being called for a foul.

If you wish to do free throw shots reliably, always do the exact same thing before making each shot. This could mean dribbling twice, shaking out your head to loosen your neck or whatever else makes you comfortable. Just make your routine quick, so that it can be consistent, and your body is going to remember just how to nail free throws following your ritual.

Use the techniques and tips from this article to become a great basketball player. You will soon become a better player if you apply the tips you just read in this article. The three step plan can help you succeed.
